Acids can seem and sound scary when you are just introduced to them. Today we will be discussing a Popular Acid used in skincare treatments to treat and facilitate skin repair.
What is Salicylic Acid exactly and how does it help ?
Salicylic acid is a one of the most popular ingredient that helps combat acne and break outs ! It is often used as a peeling agent that helps shed dead skin cells to facilitate skin regeneration.
You might be already familiar with AHA ( Alpha hydroxy acids) and BHA (Beta hydroxy acid)
Salicylic acid is a BHA, that is more oil soluble which makes it easier to penetrate into the skin to facilitate quick healing. Since Salicylic acid being a BHA, penetrates through the lipid layers of the skin better.
While AHAs work excellently on the surface of the skin to slough off old and dead skin cells, fasten skin turnover cycle. Salicylic acid being a BHA works deeper and is able to unclog pores !
This helps the salicylic acid work miracles on combating acne, white heads and black heads.
Salicylic acid also works as an exfoliant that helps break down skin cells and facilitates unclogging of the pores.
Tip: Salicylic acid is excellent for those pesky little bumps !
