Skincare 101: Carrier Oils: What are they ? How to use them

We previously discussed essential oils and did a detailed post on how to use them and how to pick them !

Today we’ll be discussing carrier oils.

What are they ?

Carrier oils are basically a plant or nut based oil/extract that is used topically to heal and nourish the skin and to dilute essential oils for topical applications !

Quality carrier oils are often mixed with essential oils for therapeutic reasons !

These healthy and natural oils allow your skin to be healthy, nourished and youthful looking !

What are they used for ?

Carrier oils are basically used to dilute essential oils prior to topical application. Carrier oils can be used on the skin and hair on it’s own as well but when mixed in with an essential oil, carrier oils helps boost the skin !

How to pick a carrier oil ?

Before choosing a carrier oils it’s important to do proper research and pick one based on your needs and skin type.

It is also important to choose one thar is pure and free from additives. We recommend checking out cold pressed oils.

What can they be used for ?

Carrier oils are basically used for diluting essential oils. Carrier oils can be used for massages, aromatherapy as well as for skin and hair care.

Many carrier oils have their own therapeutic properties, when combined with an essential oil they work even better!

Here are some Top Carrier oils recommendations

•Jojoba:

Jojoba oil very much looks like an oil but in reality is a liquid wax ester made from pressing jojoba seeds. Jojoba oil is one of the most commonly used Carrier oil since it’s very moisturizing and doesn’t clog the pores !

Tip: Jojoba oil is very similar to oils in the skin. Hence it’s great for people with oily skin !

•Rose hip seed oil:

Rose hip seed is one of the most popular carrier oils. It is especially great for dry skin, it helps regenerate the skin and also deeply nourishes the skin.

Tip: Rose hip seed oil is great for textured skin.

•Argan Oil

Argan oil contains high levels of vitamin E & antioxidants and saponins (skin-softening agents) which makes it great for textured skin. Argan oil is also a wonderful oil for anti-aging.

• Tamanu Oil:

Tamanu oil is rich in fatty acids and has antioxidant and antibacterial properties. It is incredibly healing for irritated/inflamed and acne prone skin !

•Avocado oil:

Another really popular carrier oil that is rich in omega-3 fatty acids and vitamins A, D and E and is a wonderful overall moisturizer. Rich in antioxidants, it is great for soothing inflammation and also helpful in healing sun damage and age spots.

•Olive oil:

Olive Oil is an excellent carrier oil for drier skin types. Make sure you use a organic or 100% pure unadulterated oil for the face since most olive oils in the market contain additives.
